Many people may not be aware of a company called Sling Media that makes devices that connect to your DirecTV, cable, or other satellite providers receiver so you can watch your own television from any Internet connection. The product that makes this possible is Sling Box and it connects in between the output of your cable or satellite receivers output and your televisions input. Then it connects to the network at your house via a switch, wireless router, or the like and provides instructions on how to view remotely from any computer and many mobile devices. There is an application available from the iTunes store that will allow you to connect to the Sling Box at your home via your iPhone so you can watch your home television from your iPhone. This includes watching shows that have been recorded on your DVR, etc.
I was watching a television show late last night via my DirecTV account. The show I was watching has previously been recorded on my DVR and at the time two other shows were recording. When the show I was watching was over I attempted to delete it which it appeared to do but then it locked up one of the shows I was currently recording. Once locked up I was unable to use my DirecTV HD DVR HR21-700 remote to do anything. I waited for about 15 minutes to make sure it wasn’t recover since I had never had one of my DirecTV HD receivers do this before. After waiting that initial time period I decided to go ahead and reboot the receiver which I did by unplugging the power, waiting 15 seconds, and then watching it reboot through its normal cycle. The receiver appeared to be starting as it typically does until it got to the last two steps and after a couple seconds at the final step 1 of 2 the receiver got a blue screen with the message “A problem has been detected in the storage device” message as shown below.
Playing a video that is located on your iPod Touch or your iPhone on your computer is easy. The great thing about this is you can download many podcasts or other media programs in high definition so if you have a large monitor or your PC is connected to your TV you can now easily play media from your iPhone or Touch on your TV. The main problem I had in making all of this happen is the fact that I typically sync my iPod Touch to my laptop but I have a PC in my office that is connected to my TV where I like to watch some of the podcasts I have downloaded. Below I mention how play media from your iDevice on your computer as well as how to load data from multiple computers onto your iPod Touch or iPhone.
