While doing some testing this evening on Backtrack Linux 5 R3 I had issues with apt or aptitude complaining about some dependencies for packages I had compiled from source. One of the packages I first ran into issues with was bluez which is installed by default on Backtrack. I wanted to apply a patch to the source code and then reinstall bluez which I was able to accomplish. The issue started after that when apt started complaining that bluez was not installed any longer. Below I describe how I modified the apt dependencies tracker file which fixed my unmet dependencies errors.
I recently started using Microsoft Communicator for a contract I am working on and wanted to customize it a bit. One of the things I wanted to be able to change was the status that displayed to other people as the default statuses are fairly generic and in my case I wanted to display if I was on an important meeting, working on a project, or just deep in thought. Below are simple directions that can be used to add customized statuses to Microsoft Communicator instant message client.
I was having a very slow morning at work and I started experimenting with sending tweets from the command line in Linux. I realize this is a little silly and there are plenty of good twitter apps out there but I found it amusing so I decided to post it.
I have been messing around with Django over the past week and experimenting with various settings. I first ran Django using mod_ptyhon from Apache but the results were unimpressive. Apache served the Django project’s pages extremely slow using the Apache mod_python module. After some reading I decided to give the Apache mod_fastcgi module a try to see if the results were any better. I was definitely happier with the web page load time so I then decided to experiment with various FastCGI settings.
I recently needed to look up number support tickets I have opened with Dell in the past couple of years. I had a laptop hard drive go bad and I was trying to remember if it was the second hard drive that had crashed in this laptop in a matter of 3 years. Luckily it was not but my issue was logging into Dell.com and locating the Support History & Status page.
