Change BackTrack 5 Boot Splash Screen

Recently I wanted to change the splash screen for BackTrack 5r3 which runs on a base of Ubuntu Linux 10.04 codename Lucid. To do this follow the steps below so each time your computer reboots you can have the splash screen of your choice. Do keep in mind that if the kernel is updated you may have to follow these instructions again.

My Windows XP laptop during boot used to automatically log on my primary user. At some point either during a Windows XP security update or after installing an application that changed and I was taken to a Windows XP splash screen and required to click on my user to log in. An example of what the Windows XP log in splash screen looks like is below.
