Change Default Mail Client On OSX To Microsoft Outlook For Mac

When clicking on hyperlinks that are set to open a compose email message on OSX the Mail.app application will launch. Since it is likely that your preferred email application is something other than Mail.app such as Mozilla Thunderbird, Opera, Microsoft Outlook for Mac, Postbox, Sparrow, or something else then you will want to change the default email client to your preferred email application. In my case I use MS Outlook for the Mac so I needed to set the default email client to Outlook. Use the directions below to modify the default application that opens to compose email messages.

Ubuntu CLI Mail Command: The program ‘mail’ can be found in the following packages

While working on a clients Ubuntu Linux computer I needed to send some of the logs to myself so I could analyze them at a later date but there was not an SMTP server installed on the computer. This can be resolved by installing the Exim MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) using the below apt-get command which is actually stated fairly clearly in the output of attempting to use the mail command from the Ubuntu CLI as shown below. The initial attempt at using the mail command as well as the output from apt-get is displayed in the below example output.

Ubuntu Exim Email Error: R=nonlocal: Mailing to remote domains not supported

While working on a clients computer yesterday I needed to send some of the logs from the computer to myself so I could analyze later on my computer. At first I had to install the Exim MTA which I will write an article on in the near future but once installed mail was still not being received. You won’t actually receive an error from the CLI when attempting to use the mail command from the CLI however after investigating the Exim logs located in /var/log/exim/ the below error was observed and resolving the issue was completed using the steps below.

Remove Amavis Content Filter From Postfix Configuration, Requeue All Postfix Email Messages

I installed ISPConfig awhile back on a web hosting server that at one point also hosted email accounts. I recently moved all of the email to a different server and wanted to cut down on CPU and memory usage so I needed to disable amavisd, clamd, courier-imap, and courier-authlib. These services provided a way to receive email via POP3 and IMAP as well as content filtering and virus scanning for all of that email. So after shutting all of the services down I needed to remove the reference to the local content filter from Postfix because if amavis is shut down and mail is sent from a web application to the localhost then the connection will be refused and Postfix will not send the email. Below I describe the Postfix configuration lines to comment out as well as a way to reload all of the queued email into the Postfix queue so it could be sent again.
