How to View Your Personal Skype Profile As Other Skype Users See It

Earlier I was playing around with my Skype profile and I realized there wasn’t a link that was obvious to view my own Skype profile. I wanted to make sure profile items that I was allowing only contacts to see were only seen by contacts.

Finally I thought of a way to view the profile without the link actually being provided. While you cannot add the contact your are signed in with to your contact list you can actually still search for that user and view the profile. First lets make any necessary modifications to your personal Skype profile.

Windows XP: Figure Out What Service is Running on a Specific Port

Finding out what application is running on a specific port in Windows XP is easy by using two command line utilities. By using netstat with the proper switches you can list out all of the ports that are being used and then use Tasklist to list all of the applications that are running. The combination of the two utilities will allow you to figure out which application us using which port. As an example you can use the below directions to figure out what application is using port 80 for instance.

  1. Open Command Prompt: Click Start in the lower left hand corner of your PC and then select Run from the pop up. Type command in the Run window and click Enter to open up the command prompt.

Outlook Contacts Not Showing Up In Skype

Outlook contacts not showing up in Skype has been a problem bugging me for a couple weeks but I have not had the time to look into it until tonight. I figured that it might be a bug or something with Skype since I recently upgraded however I was incorrect. For some reason when I turned on “Show Outlook Contacts” in Skype only two of my contacts were showing up. Luckily this was the case or it would have taken a lot longer to figure out.

The issue is that in my Skype setup (not sure if it is this way for all configurations) the numbers require a +1 to be in front of the area code. So for instance if you have a contact and the number is 502-123-1234 it will not show up in Skype unless you add a plus one for the number to show as +1502-123-1234. Below I describe a couple tips to convert all of your numbers a bit easier. There is probably a VB script out there that will do this easier but it  was much easier to convert all of your Outlook contact numbers as I discuss below than manually editing each one.

Fix Skype Out Call Using Fring: Call Terminated

When using Fring to make Skype calls using a iPhone or a iPod Touch you must dial using a plus and a 1. So an example of call area code 123 with number 111-2222 you would need to dial +1231112222 instead of just dialing 1231112222.

To dial the plus all you need to do is hold down 0 for a second and you will see the plus symbol appear instead of the 0.
