Vista Codec Package Is Specifically Developed For Any Computers Running Any Version Of Windows Vista

Tonight I was cleaning up a Windows 7 desktop I use for various development tasks by uninstalling dozens of applications that had been installed over time for testing. On this computer I probably keep one application long term for every 20+ applications that I install so you can imagine how messing the Programs & Features list was. Anyhow when attempting to uninstall one of the applications I received an error stating that the application was specifically designed for Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 and then would not allow removal of the application to continue. More information regarding the error and how I was able to uninstall the application are included below.

Upgrade PostgreSQL 8.3 To PostgreSQL 8.4 On A CentOS Server Using Yum

I have been needing to upgrade the PostgreSQL servers at my work for awhile now and was finally forced to do so after needing some of the features available with PostgreSQL 8.4.X. Currently we are running PostgreSQL 8.3.10 which is super old but it is definitely not the latest stable release available. One thing I am looking forward to testing is the improvements to the vacuum process. Over the past two years I have become a lot more familiar with Postgres and one thing that has been disappointing is the downtime involved in reclaiming disk space via data removed from PSQL database tables. The full vacuum process, which is required to reclaim disk after deleting data from a table, in 8.3 requires a lock on tables which essentially causes downtime. When you are dealing with large tables over 10GB in size this can take days to complete. Follow the directions below to first backup all of your PostgreSQL data, remove the current PostgreSQL installation, and then install PostgreSQL 8.4 on a CentOS Linux server.

How to Completely Remove Microsoft Office 2007 Registry Entries After a Failed Uninstall

Today I had a computer brought in where some basement Craigs list technician  had installed a hacked version of Microsoft Office on a womans computer and she was getting a error message saying it was not genuine. She brought it in to me along with a fresh new copy she had purchased and asked me to install it.  I tried to install it over the hacked copy but I kept getting all kinds of install errors in Spanish or Portuguese or some thing. I then tried to remove the hacked copy and got the same errors along with some that said “Your computer does not support the language of the uninstaller”. After a frustrated morning I found a tool which removes all traces of Office 2007 from the registry and makes it possible to delete the folder afterwards or use a 3rd party uninstaller program.

curl: option –libcurl: is unknown, curl: try curl –help for more information

I have been working on setting up some automated tasks at work that use curl to connect to FTPS on a remote server. On one of the development servers I was testing from I attempted to issue a curl command using the “–libcurl” switch which returned an error. This command was recommended by a coworker as a start to set up the automated tasks to connect to FTPS on the remote server using curl. Below I describe the error in detail, the cause of the error, and how to resolve the error.
