Earlier a friend called me while working at a client location and needed to know how to configure the VLAN on a Cisco 7940 IP Phone. I always forget the different ways to unlock different phones and wasn’t having an easy time locating the method on Google but finally did locate how to unlock the the Cisco 7940. Below is information on how to unlock the Cisco 7940 phones.

Script to Find All IP Addresses on a Internal Network

I was working on a presentation this morning and as I was writing I realized I did not have a quick fast way to make a list of all the internal Ips on a LAN (Local Area network). Many of the tools I use including nmap, nessus and nexpose will accept a list of ips so  I decided to whip up a quick dirty shell script to get the job done.  I may clean it up in the future but for now it does its job. This is meant to work on Backtrack 4 but in its current state it will work on any Debian based distro. As always with any code found on the internet you use this at your own risk. Also I am sure this can be done better but like I said it was a 10 minute fix.

Backtrack 4: Information Gathering: Route: Lanmap – Passively map a network

Lanmap is one of those tools I never really used until now. Its actually very cool. Lanmap sits quietly on a network and builds a picture of what it sees and outputs it in svg,png or gif format. I let it run on a test network far a hour or so and was impressed with the output. The only drawback is that it doesn’t “see” through switches so it can only do the private subnet the computer is physically on.
