When using X-Chat Aqua on OSX Lion it is possible to get various different errors when making SSL connections to different IRC networks. In this example I was attempting to make a SSL connection to the Freenode IRC network on port 6697. The connection terminated with a SSL error complaining that X-Chat Aqua could not get the local issuer certificate as shown in more detail below.
While getting my new Macbook laptop running OSX Lion running I decided to test X-Chat Aqua as my preferred IRC client. So far I like the interface and it reminds me of using X-Chat on Windows so many of the settings are similar. Also I have not found any functions that I require that the software will not accomplish. When making my initial connection to the Rizon IRC or Internet Relay Chat network using SSL I received an error as noted below. The error is easy to resolve using the information below.
As noted in previous articles my laptops Windows 7 Ultimate x64 operating system install became corrupted after I attempted to install the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 update. I believe the issue was related to some sort of software conflict so not necessarily all SP1’s fault though you would think there would be some form of error checking involved in the install. I waited out the upgrade for over 8 hours but in the end it still failed out. Anyhow during the process of reinstalling Windows 7 x64 on my laptop and installing all of the applications that were installed previously I wanted to restore my Trillian chat history for all of the various Trillian Connections. Below I describe what connections were configured and what Trillian Connections chat logs were restored.
Ever since I started using windows I had to switch for irssi to X-chat for my irc client. I know there is a irssi for Windows but it lacked many of the features the Linux version has. So anyway, I am a horrible speller so I decided I needed spell check on X-Chat. Turns out it is pretty easy to do so I decided to make a quick post on the steps.
