How to Install MacPorts on Snow Leopard 10.6

I have recently gotten a macbook pro to play around with so my next few articles will most likely cover getting the tools and such the way I want them on the mac book pro. The first thing I discovered is that many of the command line tools which I use every day such as nmap are available in the macports package which is a package management system similar to what I was used to in Linux.

I will details the steps I had to take to get macports installed:

Check Linux Server For Rootkits, Check If CentOS Linux Server Is Compromised

Yesterday I wrote an article about securing your /tmp and /var/tmp directories on a Linux server because I had found some files uploaded to the /tmp directory via the apache user. After locking down those directories I wanted to verify that there were no other issues on the server so I installed Rootkit Hunter and Rootcheck which are two applications that will assist you with verifying the integrity of your Linux server. Below is information on installing Rootkit Hunter and Rootcheck as well as information on how to use each of them effectively.

Internet Explorer Won’t Launch, Need To Update Windows With Windows Update Service

Earlier this I had an interesting problem where Internet Explorer would not launch all the way on a friends computer. When the IE application was clicked on it would flash on the screen and then close immediately. I believe there was either some form of virus left on the computer that was closing Internet Explorer or that the upgrade I had just performed of IE6 to IE7 was causing a different issue. My initial plan was to continue upgrading Windows XP on this friends computer but I could not do this on the Windows Update site without Internet Explorer. Below is a work around if your Internet Explorer is not functioning properly and you would like to try to apply Windows patches from the Windows Update site anyway.

CentOS Linux: Can’t install RMagick 2.7.0. Can’t find Magick-config

While prepping a development server earlier this afternoon I ran into an issue installing the rmagick gem. This was one of a list of 30 or so gems required by a Ruby project that was being installed onto the development server. I thought initially something else was wrong because I had run into this issue before but I thought I had installed ImageMagick via the yum package manager to resolve the problem. Anyhow after verifying ImageMagick was installed I still had the same issue on the development CentOS Linux server. Below I describe the error in detail along with what was done to resolve the issue.
