I downloaded My Backup Pro to use as a secondary backup on my Google Nexus 7 device which is running Android 4.2. When attempting to configure the the email address and password associated to the My Backup Pro account it continued to reject the information I was providing. Initially I thought the password must be too long, which it was, but even after shortening it to the allowed fifteen characters it continued to reject my settings. It ended up being the email address I used not being accepted because it included a “-“. Below I describe a bit more and provide a screenshot of the screen in question.
I have never had an Android device before so pretty much everything is new to me at this point. I will be writing a bunch of articles regarding the basics of Android and more specifically the basics of Android 4.2 on a Google Nexus 7. In the process of working to root the Nexus 7 I needed to backup everything on the Nexus 7 device including everything that has been configured to date. I also have taken a bunch of screenshots that I wanted to make sure got backed up before I proceed with rooting it. Backing up the Google Nexus 7 is easy but there are a couple steps to make sure you get everything which I have outlined below.
I take a lot of notes when I am either working on projects or researching so in Backtrack Linux I use KeepNote to accomplish this. KeepNote is a great little note application that provides notebook and tab functionality which pretty much covers what I need to do. One thing KeepNote doesn’t offer right out of the box is an easy way to backup notes from the command line so I took another backup shell script and converted it to backup KeepNote notes on Backtrack.
As noted in a previous article I was tasked by a client with figuring out why their Retrospect Backup software for Windows was not working properly. Since I was not familiar with Retrospect I had to troubleshoot from the beginning. I started troubleshooting on the Windows 2003 R2 server running Retrospect and was able to easily see the log files showing the errors backing up one of the companies Exchange servers. When I attempted to manually backup a single mailbox on the Microsoft Exchange server I was receiving the same errors. Below I describe the Retrospect backup error and then explain step by step how I was able to resolve the error.
Earlier while troubleshooting an issue for a customer I needed to start at the bare minimum of troubleshooting because the issue at hand was a bit out of my area of expertise. The problem as reported existed on a Windows 2003 R2 server running backup software called Retrospect. The backup software was reporting via email to the IT staff that it was no longer working and they needed me to locate the issue and resolve. The first thing I needed to do was to see how long the server had been up, if any patches had been applied recently, and if anything else had changed since the last successful backup. Again since this is out of my area of expertise I first needed to see how long the server had been up which luckily is almost as easy to do on Windows 2003 R2 as it is on Linux. Below I provide to examples of how to check server uptime on Windows.
