Dell Current System Configuration Page Not Working, SysProWMI Class IE Addon Issue

In attempting to get the current system configuration, via the Dell website, for my Dell D420 laptop I continued to run into issues. I originally thought that it must be an Internet Explorer cache problem, then went on to believe that it was a Internet Explorer add-on issue, then I thought it might be IE security settings, and the end result was I was able to get it working but I am not 100% sure as to what the problem was.

The error was the fact that no matter what I tried, which I will go into detail about below, I could not get the “Current System Configuration” on support.dell.com to analyze my system consistently. I did finally stumble across a URL that works every single time without even having to be logged in and it is listed directly below.

How to Get Back A Missing Address Bar in the Safari Web Browser

Recently I was installing some applications on a friends iMac computer and noticed his address bar was missing from the Safari web browser. I had never seen this before as I rarely use Safari though I imagine it was easy to resolve.

To add the address bar back into the browser you can either restore the toolbar defaults or just add in the address bar itself. To restore the default toolbar settings follow the steps below.

How to Change Notepad++ Default File Save Location

Changing the Notepad++ default file save location is easy but the issue I ran into was the Update Notepad++ function was not working in the version of Notepad++ I was running. So I was attempting to modify the default save location which was not yet possible in the version I was using. Finally I decided to check the web site to see if a new version was available and sure enough I was running version 4.9.x and the current release was Notepad++ version 5.2.

After upgrading to Notepad++ version 5.2 more options were available to modify file save/open locations and behavior. As shown below in the image there are now three basic options to control what directory Notepad++ looks to by default for opening and saving files.

Quickly Add a HTML META Tag to a Web Site Running Joomla

You can quickly add a meta element to a web site running Joomla using the web administration control panel. In my case I needed to add a meta tag to the index page of a web site for Google to authorize access to their Webmaster Tools section. When you sign up for the Webmaster Tools Google will ask for you to verify the site in one of two ways which are either adding a meta tag to the index page of the site or by creating a new HTML page. The easiest method using Joomla is to add the new meta tag.

Example Google Webmaster Tools Meta Tag:

bash

  1. <meta name="verify-v1" content="UDvQfRo10KRyyWW322Ssfz/sV3zdKrgLEo=" />
