PowerDVD DX 8.1 on Windows Vista Sound Not Working, Other Sound Including Windows Media Player Working Fine
A client of mine had me troubleshoot a problem on one if his Windows Vista laptops running PowerDVD DX 8.1 to play DVD’s from the internal DVD drive. I have used PowerDVD in the past but it has been awhile so I wasn’t exactly sure what the problem was right away. He said that one of his sons had been messing with the *function button along with the number keys at the top and the sound stopped working. I looked through each of the possibilities and nothing made sense that could have caused the sound to quit working.
I have configured a Linksys WRT600N to connect using PPTP to my company’s VPN server in the past as noted in this previous article. I have since swapped out the Linksys WRT600N with a Linksys WRT54GS because I wanted to replace the antennas with larger antennas to work on getting better wireless coverage in my workshop in the basement and with the primary wireless router being located on the second floor of my house I needed to do numerous things to squeeze as much signal as possible. I also noticed numerous other issues with the WRT600N including the router locking up on a regular basis as well as dropping connections.
I was looking into all of the applications installed on my Windows XP laptop and noticed Skype Web Features which I was unfamiliar with so I looked into the details. I wanted to know specifically what the Skype Web Features application did, how it was related to Skype itself, and if I could and/or should remove the application.
It appeared to me to be an add-on by Skype which if this was the case is annoying since I am not a fan of when you install an application if it also installs secondary applications without your full knowledge. Typically in this scenario the application add-on is not necessary as if it was it would be built into the primary application itself.
If you are using the Amazon Machine Tags plugin for WordPress then you are aware that Amazon recently changed their policy for the Amazon Product Advertising API and now will require that all requests are authenticated. Initially with the AMT (Amazon Machine Tags) plugin you wethe re only required to have the Amazon Access Key ID configured and not the Amazon Secret Access Key. Most people probably already had the Secret Access Key configured however if you did not have your “Secret Access Key” configured then after upgrading the AMT plugin will no longer work. If this is the case then your Amazon Machine Tags will display like the below in your WordPress posts instead of displaying the product properly.
Example AMT WordPress Post Tag: “[ amtap book:isbn=0596510489 ]”
