Upgrade LiteSpeed Web Server to 4.0.1 from 3.3.24 on Linux

Upgrading LiteSpeed web server from 3.x.x to 4.x.x is easy even though you cannot do so through the web admin console. When upgrading between major versions though you are going to have to put in a little bit more work. Follow the directions below which outline step by step what needs to be done to upgrade LiteSpeed web server from 3.x to 4.x. Below the installation instructions is a more descriptive output of what you will see during the upgrade.

  1. Download New LiteSpeed Version: Logon to your Linux server and change the directory to /usr/local/src to download the 4.x version of LiteSpeed as described below.

Microsoft Outlook: Set a Recurring Meeting at Different Times on Different Days

Setting up a meeting request in Outlook to occur at different times on different days is not especially user friendly so there are two different methods to take. You can either set up a appointment and then modify the specific days or you can configure multiple meeting requests. The first method should be used if there are a set number of meetings for instance every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the next two weeks. The second method should be used if the meetings are scheduled with no end date.

First Method:

  1. Open New Appointment: For the first method we will configure a new appointment by clicking on New in the top navigation bar followed by selecting Appointment from the drop down. Fill in all of the details like you would with a normal one time appointment.

Configure LiteSpeed Web Server Logging Options

Most of the logging options for LiteSpeed web server are very basic and general however I wanted to detail them to help others make educated decisions when it comes to the logging configuration. There is one option I use outside of the normal log configurations which is configured in a tab other than the log tab under server configuration. Below I will explain all of the configuration options and provide examples of what I recommend for LiteSpeed.

The very first thing I do when configuring a new server is to modify the “Disable Initial Log Rotation” option from “Not Set” to Yes. The purpose of this option is to make the lsws log file directory a bit more manageable. The Disable Initial Log Rotation option will stop the error.log file from being rotated every time the server is restarted. If you are on a development server this might happen numerous times a day thus creating a mess in your log directory. Instead I only rotate the error.log file based on size as described in detail below.
