Awhile back I reinstalled Windows 7 on my Dell XPS 1340 because I wanted to make my computer faster and I definitely accomplished that goal. Couple nights ago I was working in a dark area and noticed that the backlight on the keyboard was not illuminated so I started to wonder if it had ever worked after the upgrade. Below is information on how to enable the backlight on a Dell XPS 1340 laptop.
Dell XPS 1340 Backlit Keyboard Not Working:
As you can see in the above example image the backlit keyboard is not working however the backlight on the media bar is illuminated. At first I was thinking there must be a setting in the Dell BIOS that would enable or disable the backlight for the keyboard but that was not the case. After looking at the keyboard in more detail once I was in a more lit area I located a key combination that controls the backlit keyboard. The right arrow key when pressed with the function key controls the three Dell XPS 1340 backlit keyboard settings as shown in the below example image.
XPS 1340 Right Arrow + Function Controls Keyboard Backlight:
So again to turn on the Dell XPS 1340 keyboard backlight hold the function key and click the right arrow the which will turn the keyboard backlight on to the lower level as shown in the below example image.
XPS 1340 Keyboard Backlight On Low:
If you want the keyboard backlight to be brighter simply click and hold the function key and then click the right arrow key again. This will put the XPS 1340 keyboard backlight into the high setting as shown in the below example image.
XPS 1340 Keyboard Backlight On High:
