I have been using the Amazon Machine Tags WordPress plugin on numerous sites for a long time and have been happy with the results up until the last couple of months. I believe that Amazon has made some changes to their API over the last year or so and it has caused a lot of issues with the Amazon Machine Tags plugin. I even wrote this article in mid February discussing a work around that would allow the Amazon Machine Tags plugin to continue working until the developer was able to make some changes. Since that time I have been monitoring my posts to see if the Amazon products are always displaying and unfortunately even with the fix mentioned in the February article items were still not displaying at all times. Below I noted an alternative that provides solid functionality.
Replace WordPress Amazon Machine Tags Plugin:
After using the WordPress Amazon Product Post In A Post plugin, which can be downloaded here, for close to a month now I am confident to say that the plugin provides solid functionality. Installation is simple and adding products to posts is even more simple than the Amazon Machine Tags plugin was.
Add Amazon Product To WordPress Posts:
- [ amazonproducts asin=XXXXXXXX ]
To add a Amazon product to a WordPress post with the Amazon Product In A Post plugin you use the above syntax without the paces between the brackets. As you can see with Amazon Product In A Post you do not have to specify if the Amazon item is a book versus a product which makes adding the quick tag much easier. The default display looks great though you can easily modify the display in the WP admin as shown in the below image.
Modify Amazon Product In A Post CSS Style:
Once products are added to WordPress posts they should display similar to the below example image. If someone clicks on the product they will be taken to Amazon and you will receive credit to your Amazon Associates account.
