Alex and I rewired our entire network the other day with cat 6 cable and new gigabit switches. Once we got it all set up we decided to do some testing. One of the tests we ran was transfer speeds from our file server to our laptops. We were trying to determine the network linkspeed when all of a sudden I realized that I had no idea how to do this on my mac. We decided to figure it out, and when we did, we of course wrote a article to help every one else. Below I will outline the simple steps to view your link speed in Mac OSX.
How To View Wireless Interface Link Speed:
- OSX Utilities: Open the Applications folder on the Mac dock and scroll down to the bottom until you see the folder called utilities.
- OSX Network Utility: Once you have that open look for the icon for the network utility:
- Select Network Interface: Open the Network Utility and choose the interface you are interested in getting the link speed on:
- View OSX Interface Link Speed: Once you select the interface the link speed is displayed in the left hand column.
I realize this maybe simple for some people but for people like me who have only recently switched to a mac book pro it was a little difficult to find.
