When I booted my Dell Studio XPS laptop yesterday I received an error regarding the Wireless Configuration application. I first rebooted to see if it was just a fluke however I received the same error again. Below I describe the error in more detail as well as how to resolve the error by disabling a service that likely is not necessary.
Wireless Configuration Notification DLL Error:
To resolve the above error you simply need to disable the Dell or Broadcom WLAN tray service as noted in the below steps.
Resolve Notifcation DLL Not Available Error:
- Windows Services: Click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of the computer and type services in the Search Programs and Files box and then select Services from the menu above which will open the below window.
- Wireless WLAN Tray Service: If you are on a Dell computer it is likely the service will be called “Dell Wireless WLAN Tray Service” however other computers may call the service “Broadcom Wireless WLAN Tray Service”. Locate the proper service which for Dell computers is highlighted in the image in step one.
- Disable Wireless WLAN Tray Service: Double click on the Wireless WLAN Tray Service to open the service configuration options as shown in the below example image.
Stop the service by clicking the Stop button and then modify the Startup Type to Disabled followed by clicking the Apply button.
- Reboot Computer: Now reboot the computer to verify the issue is resolved. The error should no longer display when the computer starts up.
If you need the Wireless WLAN Tray Service to monitor WLAN connections you should investigate reinstalling the WLAN software from the computer manufacturer such as Dell.
