Recently I was working on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop computer that came into the computer shop and needed to have Windows XP reinstalled on it. After reinstalling Windows XP Professional on the Latitude D630 and attempting to reinstall all of the drivers needed there was still a device that did not have the proper drivers installed. The device displayed under Other Devices as USB Device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. The article below describes the USB Device driver error as well as how to resolve the problem on a Dell Latitude D630.
Dell Latitude D630 USB Device Driver:
As you can see above there is a device listed under Other Devices as USB Device that is having a driver issue. The device is actually an internal Bluetooth card that needs to have the drivers installed. The easiest way to do this is by logging into the Dell web site, entering your Service Tag (located on the bottom of your computer), and then downloading the necessary Bluetooth device driver via Dell. In the case of the Latitude D630 the file downloaded was called R167661.EXE so you could probably also search for that specific file to see if it can be found on the Internet as well. Please note that it is always safest to download the file directly from Dell though.
Install Bluetooth USB Device Driver On Latitude D630:
- Download Bluetooth USB Device Driver: Again you can either search the Dell website for R167661.EXE, locate the driver after logging into Dell’s website, or search on Google for the R167661.EXE file.
- Unzip R167661 File: Double click the R167661.EXE file to begin unpacking the Dell D630 Bluetooth USB device driver otherwise known as Dell Wireless 360 Module as shown in the below image.
The above window will appear after clicking on the R167661.exe file ad after clicking the Continue button you will be asked where to unpack the contents of the file. The default location shown in the example image below should be fine.
Click the OK button to continue and likely you will get the below warning message.
Click Yes to unpack the contents of the driver file.
- Install Dell Wireless 360 Bluetooth Module Driver: The installation should begin immediately after you click the OK button on the “All files were successfully unzipped” window which displays after the files are unzipped in step 2. The first thing you need to do is select the installation language as shown in the below example image.
Click the OK button to continue the installation. After selecting the language you will continue to click the Next button until you have to agree to the terms. Once you have read over the terms click the radio button next to “I accept the terms in the license agreement” and then click the Next button to continue. After agreeing to the License click the Install button on the window displayed in the below example image.
The driver will now be installed. During the process the Dell Bluetooth Stack will be installed and your entire screen will turn blue as shown in the below example image.
You will also likely get some pop up balloons during the install as shown in the below example image.
After a little time the installation will complete and you can close any left over windows that have been opened.
- Verify Drivers Via Device Manager: Now open Device Manager again and verify there are no more known USB devices listed under Other Devices. You should also now see a Bluetooth section listing the newly installed drivers as shown in the below example image.
The Unknown USB Device has now been installed on your Dell Latitude D630.
