You can install telnet on Windows 7 by following the directions in this article however you may want to instead install telnet using cygwin. The cygwin application provides you Linux type environment in Windows and you can use the cygwin installer to install lots of different Linux applications. One application that you might want to install is telnet however if you search for telnet via the cygwin installer there won’t be any results provided. Below is information on how to install telnet using cygwin on Windows.
Install Telnet Using Cygwin On Windows:
- Launch Cygwin Installer: Download the cygwin installer, which will be named setup.exe, via the cygwin site by clicking here. Once downloaded click on setup.exe and follow the steps until you get to the package selection window as shown in the below image.
- Locate Telnet Package: The package that will install telnet on your computer is called inetutils. Type inetutils in the search window and you will see the package available under the Net package section.
- Set inetutils To Install: Click on Skip to the far left of the inetutils row until it changes to display the inetutils version that will be installed and has an X in the Binary column as shown in the below example image.
- Install inetutils: Now click the Next button located in the bottom right corner to begin installing the base cygwin packages as well as inetutils which will include telnet. If you already had cygwin installed then the already installed packages will probably be updated as well as inetutils being installed as well.
It may take a little bit of time but eventually all of the packages will be downloaded and installed. Telnet should be available immediately once the installation is complete.
Again you can install telnet using Windows 7 however it may be preferred to install it using cygwin instead.

Thanks! Saved me some hassle, much appreciated. And I dig the image handling on your walk-thru. Going to clone it for my own use (insert evil laugh here) provided it is OS.
