While looking over my iPhone ATT Wireless plan features I noticed that they enable the application Loopt access by default. Loopt is a social media application that provides a method to view the location of your friends or your friends the ability to see your location on your iPhone using GPS technology. Even though you are still required to provide access to each person that can view your location I view this as a security risk and would think that ATT should keep this disabled by default and require a person to explicitly enable this feature instead. Below is information on how to disable this so called feature via the ATT Wireless web site.
Disable Location Based Tracking Services On Your ATT Wireless iPhone:
- ATT Wireless Web Site: First open the attwireless.com web site as shown in the below example image in your favorite browser and then login with your mobile phone number and password.
- ATT Wireless My Services: After logging in click on My Services in the top navigation to display a summary of your ATT Wireless iPhone services as shown in the below example image.
- ATT Wireless Location Based Services: After clicking My Services a new left navigation bar will display with numerous options including Add A Line, Phone Upgrade, Rate Plan, Features, A-List, and Location Based Services. Click on the Location Based Services link to open the below page on the ATT Wireless web site.
- Manage Loopt Controls: Now in the center column click on “Manage Your Loopt Settings” to open the Loopt location based services settings on the ATT Wireless web site as shown in the below example image.
By default the Loopt Controls will be set to Unblocked so click the radio button next to Blocked and then click the Save Settings button. Once the settings have been saved the below window will display.
Click the Continue button to confirm the changes.
Now GPS tracking via the Loopt application will be disabled.
