I was browsing some folders on my Windows 7 PC today looking for something and noticed a bunch of RTF (Rich Text Format) files in my users “My Documents” folder. After a bit of investigation I realized that they were GoToMeeting chat logs that I wasn’t even aware were being saved. I guess by default the GoToMeeting software saves a chat log for every meeting in rich text format which is annoying because if you are in a bunch of meetings the files just pile up. Things wouldn’t be as bad if the chat logs were appended to the same file but generating a new file for each chat by default just doesn’t seem like the most user friendly way to do things. Follow the simple directions below to turn off the GoToMeeting chat logs.
Stop GoToMeeting From Creating Rich Text Format Files For Every Chat Log:
- Open GoToMeeting: First launch GoToMeeting on your Windows 7 computer by opening the Start menu and typing “G2MInstHigh” into the search window as shown below.
One file will display in the search results above where you typed in G2MInstHigh which you should click on to launch GoToMeeting. Likely nothing will display on your computer screen however the GoToMeeting icon will now display in the Windows 7 Taskbar shown in the below example image as the last icon.
- GoToMeeting Preferences: Right click on the GoToMeeting icon displayed in the example image above and select Preferences from the pop up menu to launch the GoToMeeting preferences configuration window.
- GoToMeeting General Preferences: Now select General from the Category box to display the General GoToMeeting Preferences configuration window as shown below.
- Disable GoToMeeting Chat Logs: Remove the check mark from the check box next to Chat Logs at the top of the GoToMeeting General Preferences window and then click the OK button at the bottom to save the new GoToMeeting settings.
GoToMeeting chat logs will no longer be automatically generated each time you join a meeting.
