A medical research company that is a client of mine asked if I would come by to install some software for them the other day. The software was supposed to be an addition to Canfield Imaging Systems VISIA software package called Mirror. The Mirror software was going to provide my client a way to manage the images created from within VISIA in a much more efficient and standard way. Currently they are able to export images either one at a time or as a bundle in a non standard file format which makes them fairly useless unless you are importing into another VISIA system. Anyhow during the software install I was unable to launch Mirror after the initial install because of a licensing server issue which I describe below along with how I was able to resolve the problem short term and what needs to happen long term to make the two software packages interact together.
Canfield Imaging Systems Mirror: License Server Error: err: 814F000F
The error shown in the example image above displayed when I attempted to launch Canfield Imaging Systems Mirror software package for the first time after initial installation. The software comes with a USB thumb drive which is displayed in the example image below and contains the license key information for the Mirror software.
Canfield Imaging Systems Mirror Software USB Thumb Drive License Key
The idea with the USB key is supposed to be that when it is plugged in the software will launch without issue however it will display a software license issue if it is not plugged into the computer. Since Canfield Imaging Systems VISIA was already installed on this computer there was already a USB Key with the VISIA software license already present so I figured there might be a conflict of some sort and I needed to verify with their technical support. Sure enough after discussing with Canfield’s technical support they verified that there can only be one USB Key with a Canfield Imaging Systems software license per computer.
Mirror Software License Error Short Term Solution:
So the short term solution is to only have one USB Key with software license inserted into the computer at a time. If only the Mirror USB Key software license is inserted then Mirror runs without issue and if only the VISIA USB Key software license is inserted then VISIA runs without issue. The issue for the client is that they need both applications to access the same data which brings us to the long term solution below.
Mirror Software License Error Long Term Solution:
For both Canfield Imaging Systems applications to access the same data then you need an integrated USB Key software license which means your Canfield Imaging Systems support contracts for both software applications must be up to date and active. My client either misunderstood or was mislead about this considering they purchased the Mirror software to be able to manage VISIA images in a more efficient manner. To accomplish this one USB key must be sent back to Canfield and configured to integrate both software packages. Once the key comes back it can be inserted into the computer and either application will run without having to switch out the USB Key’s.
