Typically when I want to modify a setting related to one of the browsers I use I open the main Preferences configuration window, navigate to the correct sub section, make the modification, and then save the new browser configuration setting. Opera does have a typical Preferences configuration window however I was initially unable to locate the torrent settings from within the that Preferences configuration window so I had to do a little more digging to find out where to modify the Opera Torrent Settings. Below I display the default Opera Preferences window where I could not find the Torrent Settings and then the proper way to modify the Opera web browser torrent settings.
Opera Web Browser Preferences Configuration Window:
So again I was unable to find any torrent settings within the Opera Preferences configuration window shown above. That does not mean that the settings are not there though it does mean that I was unable to find them after spending a good amount of time looking. Finally I stumbled across a more in depth Opera configuration method which is built into the Opera browser window itself. Type the below into the address bar of Opera to open an in depth Opera settings configuration window.
Browser Address To Open Local Opera Settings Configuration Window:
- opera:config
After typing the above into an Opera browser window the Opera Preferences Editor will display as shown in the below example image.
Opera Preferences Editor Displayed In An Opera Browser Window:
From the Opera Preferences Editor window you can modify settings related pretty much anything to do with the Opera browser. There are a ton of sub sections located on the main Preferences Editor page which include Author Display Mode, Auto Update BitTorrent, CSS Generic Font Family, Cache, Clear Private Data Dialog, Colors, Developer Tools, Disk Cache, Extensions, File Types Section Info, Fonts, Handheld, HotListWindow, ISP, Install, Java, Link, Mail, Mailbox, Multimedia, Network, News, OEM, Opera Account, Opera Sync, Performance, Persistent Storage, Personal Info, Printer, Proxy, SVG, Saved Settings, Security Prefs, Sounds, Special, System, TransferWindow, User Agent, User Display Mode, User Prefs, Visited Link, VoiceXML, Web Server, & Widgets. As you can see there are many more settings available via the Preferences Editor than the Preferences Window that is displayed by clicking on the Opera Menu, selecting Settings from the drop down, and then by clicking Preferences in the fly out menu.
The initial reason I was looking for more settings was to see what options related to the Opera BitTorrent client were available to modify. The third option from the top of the Opera Preferences Editor was labeled BitTorrent and had numerous items you could modify related to the Opera Torrent client. Below is an example image that displays the BitTorrent sub section expanded from the initial Opera Preferences Editor window.
Opera Preferences Editor: BitTorrent
So the available Opera Bit Torrent settings that can be modified include Bandwidth Restriction Mode, enable/disable, the listening port, log file location, max download rate, max upload rate, and the warning dialog. Below are more details on each of the available bit torrent settings from within the Opera web browser.
- Bandwidth Restriction Mode: Enable automatic bandwidth restriction
- Enable: Enable file distribution using BitTorrent
- Listening Port: Port listening for incoming connections
- Log File: Select file path for debugging output
- Max Download Rate: Limitation on bandwidth usage for uploading in KB/s — only effective if Bandwidth Restriction Mode is 0
- Max Upload Rate: Limitation on bandwidth usage for uploading in KB/s — only effective if Bandwidth Restriction Mode is 0
- Warning Dialog: Display warning dialog for Torrent downloads
Those are the available torrent settings from within Opera. It is also very useful to explore other configuration options available via the Opera Preferences Editor.
