A client computer recently had an issue launching Internet Explorer. Every time that you would click on Internet Explorer or Firefox the browser would attempt to launch and then immediately close. I finally decided to try and update AVG Antivirus and Antispyware but the update failed. At this point I was pretty sure that AVG was the issue so I attempted to uninstall AVG which also failed. Below I describe more information about the AVG uninstall error and how to remove AVG 8.5 from a Windows computer.
Error: Installer initialization failed due to the following error: Warning: Internal error. Dialog with id “Avg9DetectedDlg” was not found.
AVG 8.5 Uninstall Error:
Now I needed to figure out how to remove AVG to either try another virus scanner or reinstall AVG. My choice was to completely remove AVG and then install Microsoft Security Essentials. To completely uninstall AVG download the avgremover.exe from AVG. Once downloaded double click on the file which will display the below message.
Click the Yes button to start the AVG removal application. The application will take awhile to run but after clicking Yes a Windows Dos window will display as shown below.
You will see files scroll by as they are removed so be patient until the application is completely removed. Once it is completed either reinstall AVG or choose something else like Microsoft Security Essentials. In my scenario I selected Microsoft Security Essentials and once AVG was removed Internet Explorer and Firefox both started working without issue.
