I am a big IRC user and I always have been. One of the things I always loved about Linux is the irc client irssi. If you have been reading some of our other articles you know that Alex and I got some new laptops and we are using windows 7. I tried irssi for windows and it pretty much sucked so I decided to check out xchat.
X-chat is a pretty cool irc client. I was not used to using a GUI style client but I must say its pretty nice. After using it awhile I started thinking the default interface shown here was a little boring:
I decided to check out if any themes were available and there were a few. You can go here and check out the selection.
I decided on the original black theme and went ahead and downloaded the zip file:
Once you open the archive you will see two files. prevents.conf and colors.conf.
These files need to move to the local application data folder in your users home directory. This was the one small hitch I had since in the past the file has always been called “Application Data” but apparently they changed the name of the file too “AppData”.
So all you have to do is copy the two files prevents.conf and colors.conf to the xchat2 folder which is inside the AppData folder.
After that you just restart X-chat and you have a much nicer black theme.
