There are numerous applications that allow you to print pretty much anything directly from your iPhone. Some applications require third party software running on a computer to fully function though. Below I describe three different applications that I use to print items directly from my iPhone or from my iPhone through a computer because each of these applications serve a different purpose. When possibly it is always easiest to print directly from the iPhone but I have yet to find a solid application that will print any type of document directly from the iPhone. Hopefully the below explanations will explain help you decide which application or applications are best for you based on price and functionality.
HP iPrint Photo: DOWNLOAD
HP iPrint Photo can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store by clicking here. This is a free application provided by HP to be used with HP Photosmart printers. This application will not do anything but print pictures directly from the iPhone to HP printers however if this is all you need to do this is probably your best bet in terms of printing applications because it works great and its free. Below are a couple images of the HP iPrint Photo application in action.
ePrint & ePrint Free: DOWNLOAD
ePrint is an iPhone application that will allow you to print images, notes, contacts, calendar items, or cards directly from your iPhone to most network printers. The main benefit of ePrint for the iPhone is it lets you print directly from the iPhone to your printer though there are limitations on the types of documents you can print. If this application allowed you to print documents such as Word documents then it would be the best all around printing application for the iPhone. If your printing needs are minimal this application is only $2.99 which is a very reasonable price for the functionality provided. First click here to download the ePrint Free version of the application so you can verify it works properly with your printer. Once you have verified the free version of ePrint click here to download the full version of the application. Below are numerous images showing the functionality of the ePrint iPhone application.
Print n Share: DOWNLOAD
Print n Share offers the most printing functionality of any of the three applications mentioned in this article however it also has the biggest set back as well which is the fact that you actually have to print through a computer on your network and not directly to the printer itself. If you do need to print documents such as PDF directly from your iPhone though Print n Share is probably the application you want to use. I personally can always just print those type of documents from my laptop and typically use HP iPrint Photo or ePrint since they will print directly to a network printer without having to involve a computer running a third party application. If you do intend to use Print n Share on your iPhone it costs $5.99 and will require you install a third party application called WePrint from EuroSmartz that can be downloaded here. After you have installed WePrint on a computer on your network download and install Print n Share by clicking here. Below are numerous images from the Print n Share iPhone application and the WePrint application that will be installed on your computer.
Between the three applications above you can accomplish any printing needs that you may have directly from your iPhone. The ability to print directly from the iPhone makes it even more like a mini laptop than ever before and hopefully the descriptions above will assist in making an educated decision on how best to spend money on an iPhone printing application.
EuroSmart responded that Print N’ Share would enable me to print from both an iTouch (2nd generation) and an iPad 2. However, I see no documentation that says Print N’ Share software is compatible with a secnond generation iTouch. Can you direct me to documentation. Your article does not specify compatibility.
Hello Will,
We don’t provide documentation regarding software referenced in our articles. We simply write articles that are related to technology tasks we complete. The device used in the above article was a iPhone 4.
Thanks.
