Recently I was trying to paste a screenshot created using print screen into Adobe Photoshop CS4 on Windows XP but nothing would happen. I use print screen to create screenshots on a regular basis and then paste the results into Photoshop so I can describe how to resolve basic issues on a computer to people. I have never had a problem until this time so I figured it must be a configuration setting or something similar causing the issue.
After reviewing the Photoshop preferences I could not find any configuration options that would be causing the problem. After testing other applications I noticed that taking a screenshot and pasting into these other image applications also was not working right so the issue was not related specifically to Photoshop.
After reviewing every action that had occurred on the computer since the last successful copy/paste of a screenshot into Photoshop I limited down the items that could have been causing the problem. I finally figured out that an application I had installed to modify some things on my friends new Palm Pre was the item causing the problem. The application was the Sun xVM VirtualBox application that allowed me to install the Palm SDK on Windows XP. To resolve the problem I simply removed the Palm SDK and Sun xVM VirtualBox from the computer and pasting screenshots into Photoshop started working again. There is definitely a way to make them work together however since I only needed those applications to modify my friends Palm Pre I just removed them for now.
I use Adobe Photoshop on my Webpage making business at home. Photoshop got all the features i need to make some really great graphics and banners. ^
Hello acnemobo,
That is true. Photoshop is a great tool to use for graphics, etc.
Thanks.

Just delete your preferences and all will be wel again. Preferences can be found here:
Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp
If you don’t want to delete your preferences file, you can temporaily move it:
1. close photoshop
2. move preferences file to desktop (or somewhere else)
3. make sure there is no preference file in the folder mentioned above.
4. Open photoshop
5. check if you can paste the clipboard into photoshop
6. paste your preference file from desktop to the folder mentioned above
7. check if you can paste the clipboard into photoshop
Hello Tim,
Thanks for posting feedback.
Thanks.

I might have to correct myself. :)
The error came in different disquise: the printscreen pasting worked, but came back as an invert black image (really wierd)
I updated the driver of the videocard, that seems to have worked well. User now says all works well.
If not, i’ll let you know.
