Recently I have been having issues logging in to the iPhone Google Voice application called GV Mobile Free. It appears some of those issues may be resolved by upgrading to the latest version of GV Mobile Free which is 1.22.1. The only problem with that is the fact that I currently cannot find the newest version or any version for that matter in the iTunes store. Currently I have GV Mobile Free version 1.2 installed and the log in issues will pop up a credentials message shown below.
If you are receiving this message and you used to not receive it then the pointers below should help you log on to the application until you can upgrade to the latest version where the issues should be resolved.
iPhone GV Mobile Free Log In Tips:
- Primary Google Account: I typically logged in with a secondary Google account that was linked to my primary Gmail email address but this seems to be causing problems. Switching to the Gmail email address and password seemed to make it much easier to log on.
- Switch Numbers: If you have more than one phone number configured in Google Voice you will be able to see both numbers and can switch between the two without logging in so go ahead and highlight the other number and then retype your user name and password to attempt to log on again.
- Turn Off WiFi & Use 3G:Use the phones 3G connection instead of the WiFi connection. Changing this made the biggest difference and I was able to log in regularly after turning off WiFi.
Once you are able to log into the application you will be able to get to the dial pad as shown below.
Google Voice is a great free service and having an easy way to access its features via the iPhone is really cool. Hopefully the upgrade will appear in the iTunes store for me soon so I can upgrade to the latest version and get past the log in annoyance.
Google Voice is no longer allowed by Apple. I got it before they pulled it out of the Apps store but now I am having the same problem. I tried all the pointers suggested but nothing works. I think Apple has blocked this App from working which will really make me reconsider the whole iPhone argument. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
Hello Joel,
Yeah this is a bummer but I think you can use other SIP applications to work with Google Voice. You could try Gizmo5 where you can specify your Google Voice account and actually make free VoIP calls. I still need to configure this using one of the other iPhone VoIP applications though I do have it working with an ATA. If you are interested just search for Gizmo5 in the Question-Defense.com search box above. If you get it working let us know.
Thanks.

This is not true. I am having issues with getting the “Invalid Credentials” error while my fiance is not. We both have jailbroken 3GS phones running iPhone 3.0.1. I don’t understand why I am unable to use GV Mobile on my iPhone while he is.
Hello Sara,
It was true at the time the article was written but there was another update to the Google API since then. I would suggest what has worked with some of the other Google applications that are in the process of upgrading. – Click Here – Basically you can unlock the captcha via your Safari web browser and it has resolved the issue for some of the other applications though I am not sure it will work for GV Mobile as my version is fairly old on my iPhone… Hope that helps.
Thanks.

Hello Sara,
Hello again. I finally got a iPod Touch that is jailbroken and just wanted to share that I am able to login without issues (no tricks) to the Google Voice application available via Cydia or Icy. I still do have troubles with GV Mobile Free application available via the iTunes App Store but the application called “GV Mobile” available on jailbroken devices works without any issues. The current version of GV Mobile that is working great is GV Mobile 1.22.1. I just wanted to share in case you were using GV Mobile Free from the App Store and not the other GV Mobile application since you said your iPhone was jailbroken.
Anyway hope that helps.
Thanks.

I had the same issue logging in GV Mobile I got from Installous, but after deleting it and get the GV Mobile version from Cydia, it’s WORKING FINE. I think the version from Cydia is the latest one.
Hopefully this helps.
Good luck!
Hello hTran,
Thanks for posting this! I wasn’t aware it was offered from two different locations and had only downloaded the version from Cydia that always worked fine on my jailbroken iPod Touch. So thanks again for the details. I am sure this will help others out.
Thanks.
