Recently I was tasked by a client with figuring out how to connect to their Flash Media Server for administration purposes. I personally have not ever used FMS so I didn’t even know where to begin. After trying to bring up the admin console in a browser on port 1111 and receiving an error as noted below I finally figured out that you must install a package from Adobe and make the connection through that software. I describe below the steps I took to make the connection to the clients Flash Media Server or more correctly the Flash Media Administration Console.

Tonight I was downloading some packages from a community FTP server I am a member of and noticed that the transfer speeds were not showing after I started to process the FileZilla FTP transfer queue. Initially I figured I must have unchecked a toolbar or accidentally modified a view setting without knowing it. After reviewing the FileZilla configuration I couldn’t find anything that specified the display of the transfer speeds. Below I show FileZilla when it is not displaying the transfer speeds when it is in the middle processing a queue, what steps I took to resolve the issue, and last but not least what FileZilla should display when it is processing files from the transfer queue.

After recently reinstalling Windows 7 on my laptop I was getting all of my typical applications reinstalled and continued getting a popup error for Evernote after getting it configured. I use Evernote to automatically sync notes I take in Notepad++ remotely to Evernote’s servers so I have a copy of all my notes in real time in a remote location in case anything drastic happens with my laptop. Anyhow I had never seen this error before and all I was doing was syncing the same notes that have been incrementally synced to Evernote for years now. I finally took the time to look in the logs, locate the issue, and easily resolve it by removing the problem notes which I didn’t need any longer anyhow.

One thing I noticed when I made the change from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010 was the fact that the little mail icon that used to display when I received an email was no longer displaying in the notification area of the Windows 7 taskbar. I assumed that it was simply a configuration that needed to be made but when I finally got around to looking into this a two days ago I realized that I had Outlook configured properly. After some research I found out that Outlook 2010 does not display desktop alerts, which include the mail icon as well as pop up desktop alerts, properly on Windows 7 x64 computers. After looking around I came up with a solution that ended up costing me $7 but was well worth having the notification icon display when new email is received in Outlook 2010.

Earlier today I was troubleshooting a problem with sent items being displayed twice in my Outlook 2010 mail client. My configuration is definitely not standard and I have had issues before with some accounts putting two sent items in the same folder and some not however today all of the email being sent was showing up in my sent items folder twice. Initially I figured it would be a corrupt Outlook Rule or something similar but when I took at the list of my accounts in the left navigation bar within Outlook I noticed that one of my IMAP accounts was opened twice. I attempted to close one of the instances of the IMAP account without any luck. After messing around for a bit I was able to come up with a solution which is detailed below.
