Tonight I was downloading some packages from a community FTP server I am a member of and noticed that the transfer speeds were not showing after I started to process the FileZilla FTP transfer queue. Initially I figured I must have unchecked a toolbar or accidentally modified a view setting without knowing it. After reviewing the FileZilla configuration I couldn’t find anything that specified the display of the transfer speeds. Below I show FileZilla when it is not displaying the transfer speeds when it is in the middle processing a queue, what steps I took to resolve the issue, and last but not least what FileZilla should display when it is processing files from the transfer queue.

Earlier today I reinstalled Windows XP on a friends Dell Inspiron 1525 and while working through the custom Dell drivers I ran into a minor issue. The issue was related to some devices showing up in the Windows XP Device Manager called Base System Device. Typically these are chipset devices but I thought I had installed all of the necessary drivers so I was a bit confused. In reality I forgot to install one of the chipset drivers called Ricoh. Below is information on how to install the drivers for the unknown Base System devices on a Dell Inspiron 1525.

Alex and I were redoing our shop network today and we had to do some configuring on our Cisco switch. Normally this is no big deal but because I switched to mac recently I realized that I had no clue how to console into a Ciso switch. After a little googling I found a free program called zterm which people said would work. I use a proprietary program called Secure CRT which does console conections but if you do not have that check out zterm.
Anyway obviously there is no serial port on a macbook pro so I needed to use my usb to serial adapter. I plugged it in only to find that my mac did not “see” it as a device. As most Windows users, I was used to it comming up as a comm port so I was not sure where to look for it

Last week I tried a bunch of different methods to try and upgrade a Dell PE650 BIOS. I finally settled on using a floppy disk to upgrade the BIOS however I initially ran into some issues with various floppy drives and floppy disks. One of the issues was an error message I received when attempting to access the floppy disk located within a floppy drive I had just installed on a Windows XP computer. Below I describe the error and how I was able to get past this specific error.

The LCD TV in my office started having issues with the LCD screen a couple weeks ago so I had to take the TV in to get the screen replaced. Luckily the LCD panel happened to be under warranty or I would have been out $2200. Regardless though it left me without the TV in my office which I use not only for TV but also for a second computer screen from one of my desktop computers so I was limited to using my HP w2408h monitor to watch movies, etc. One of the things I wanted to accomplish was to get the HD DVD player from my Xbox 360 working on a Windows 7 computer so I could watch some older movies on the monitor while the TV was in the shop. Below is information regarding what issues I ran across and how to overcome them which really is limited to the software used to play the HD DVD movies.
