RightScale Stop Recipe From Being Used In RightScript, GIT /tmp/

If you have created a custom RightScript in the RightScale interface that uses git to clone a repository and you are running that RightScript on boot following the RightScale git_repo recipe then you likely are having issues. The problem appears to stem from the fact that the environment variables are not completely cleaned up as expected including $GIT_SSH and possibly others. I have a work around noted below along with a line you can enter in your RightScript to clear the $GIT_SSH ENV variable as well.

svn co Error: Server certificate verification failed: issuer is not trusted

When attempting to sync a repo to a server or to your desktop you will receive an error if the certificate being used to protect the HTTPS repository URL is not issued by the proper authority. Many companies generate their own certificates for repository URL’s especially if the repository is primary used internally. In this example I was attempting to sync a repository using SVN to a folder on the desktop of my Macbook Pro running OSX Mountain Lion. Below I describe the error in more detail followed by resolution to the svn certificate error.

Move Long Running Linux Process To Screen Session

Have a long running Linux process open in a SSH terminal window and need to shutdown your computer without killing it? I run into this on a regular basis and never spent the time looking into a solution but this past weekend I actually decided to look and came up with a cool solution called reptyr. The reptyr application allows you to open screen and migrate the process to the screen terminal and away from the terminal connection opened without screen. This allows you to detach from the window without killing the process. Below is a quick overview of installing reptyr and how to use it.

Ruby Script to Update Github Repos and Fetch Changesets for Redmine

I recently started using Redmine for numerous projects and could not be happier with the application so far. Not only is it actively developed and already includes a ton of great features but it doesn’t seem bloated at all. Many of the projects I have configured for Redmine have their code base stored on Github so I needed to find a way to add code updates that referenced tickets to the tickets themselves. At first I was having a bit of trouble understanding exactly how this should be achieved but after digging around it ended up being pretty easy. You will need to configure local repos underneath your Redmine project that are updated fairly regularly and then after they are updated you will need to run a script that updates the any ticket that code has been associated with.

msysgit clone Error – fatal: Cannot update the ref ‘HEAD’

I wanted to start syncing a git project to my Windows XP laptop so I installed msysgit because of the good things I have heard about it. The latest version was 1.6.2 so I figured that was a good place to start. Using a clone command I knew works on Linux since I use it all the time I attempted to clone a git repository from github onto the Windows PC. I ended up receiving the output below which is filled with errors.

Git Version:

  1. git version 1.6.2.msysgit.0.186.gf7512
