It is fairly easy to turn your T-Mobile Blackberry 8320 into a modem for your laptop on Windows XP. Follow the simple instructions below and you will be surfing the Internet from anywhere you have cell coverage in no time.

  1. Install Desktop Manager: First make sure you install the Desktop Manager software provided with your Blackberry cell phone. You should receive a CD with your Blackberry 8320 that includes the software so follow the step by step instructions for installing the Desktop Manager which allows you to sync your contacts, appointments, etc. with your computer.

So I have had random issues using my T-Mobile UMA service at my house. Typically things work a lot better in the basement or the first floor where I connect to a Linksys WRT54Gs running sveasoft’s Tailsman Basic firmware. I have previously had a ton of connection issues with the UMA service when I am upstairs in my office where my Blackberry 8320 cell phone is connecting to a Linksys WRT600N with default firmware. I have done a lot of searching around the web as well as playing around with all of the devices. I don’t think there is a specific setup that is required to make things work however below I describe what I believe to be the tweaks that have helped me the most.

The Blackberry Curve 8320 has a built in WiFi card that can connect to T-Mobile HotSpot locations as well as any other wireless networks that you configure on the device. The authentication methods that are supported by this device as noted by T-Mobile’s support web site are listed below. Most home based wireless networks that have authentication configured use WEP, WPA, or WPA2 so you should not have any issues connecting with your Blackberry Curve 8320.
