Earlier today I reinstalled Windows XP on a friends Dell Inspiron 1525 and while working through the custom Dell drivers I ran into a minor issue. The issue was related to some devices showing up in the Windows XP Device Manager called Base System Device. Below is information on how to install the drivers for the unknown Base System devices on a Dell Inspiron 1525.

Thanks, man! It’s hard to find any information on this driver on the internet. I’m just curious as to what this driver does, and why I suddenly need to have it after 6 months of use with this laptop.

    Hello Blake,

I don’t hundred percent recall however I believe it is either related to the chipset, bluetooth, or the SD card slots. Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback.

I have the same problem with my Inspiron 9400. When I try to unzip the driver, it gives me the message ” this self extracting zip file is part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set” What gives? I inout my service code and downloaded the file from dell, just as you did.

    Hello Charlie,

No idea. That was not an issue when I performed the above steps. You might contact Dell support to ask why the archive now appears to be corrupted.
