Sep 13 10:10:27 cent2 avahi-daemon[2699]: Invalid query packet.

I am getting the same error.

Seems fine to disable such a service. It is apparently used to query Media servers and playstation3's.

I.E. in a server, who cares.

Hello James,

Good deal. Thanks for posting this. I have to remember what server I manage I saw these messages on, double check that they are still occurring, and then install avahi-tools if so to see if that resolves the issue.

Definitely appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback.

Thanks.

Hello IchBin,

You might try investigating using something like wireshark to sniff the multicast/broadcast packets on the network to see what traffic is hitting the server at the same time that the log messages are generated.

I would be interested to hear what your findings are.

Thanks.

Found you via google as I have the same problem running on CentOS 5.5. Avahi is up to date according to the package manager. Still getting Invalid Query packet all too often. It does not state a machine or IP that it is getting this issue from. The errors are just like yours that were posted above.

Hello PK Seet,

Those log messages are valid and indicate that your host ww.xx.yy.zz is sending some form of invalid packets to the devhost server. It does not represent a problem on the localhost but on the device sending the invalid packets.

Thanks.

Hi Alex,

I have updated avahi to avahi-0.6.16-9.el5_5.i386 on my Centos 5.5 machine. I still see a bunch of messages created almost every minute in /var/log/messages that goes:

Feb 16 13:27:41 devhost avahi-daemon[3879]: Invalid legacy unicast query packet.
Feb 16 13:27:41 devhost message repeated 2 times
Feb 16 13:27:42 devhost avahi-daemon[3879]: Received response from host ww.xx.yy.zz with invalid source port 7995 on interface 'xenbr0.0'

Please advise if this is an issue and how to resolve this.

Thanks.
