No problem man… Yes you can do that. Just boot to the CD and either do a full install or you could also do a dual boot. You want to download the ISO image from the Backtrack site for your platform.

It was tested with BT4 R2. You might try burning the image file again at a lower speed but I can definitely confirm that I was able to install Backtrack 4 R2 in Virtual PC.

The article is about how to install without needing a different computer so you might start by reading the actual article. You can also search for “backtrack vmware” as there is an article for that as well.

As for books try CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) books and you could try the backtrack web site as well.

So I was recently trying to fix my call of duty gameplay via accessing my router; after going through my seurity logs, I discovered that my network has block a great deal of I.P. address which shows that I’m constantly underattack!!!

Additionally, just over 5 weeks ago I was downloading some music using Ares then I shockingly notice some files being stolen from a particular folder on my computer. I panicked & went in a fit switching of my Wifi, unplugging my modem & even deleting Ares & changed my computer name.

Backtrack seems like a program that will solve my problems. Someone please advice me fully about it;

1.How long will it take me to learn it?
2.Will I need a new laptop to run it? Hope not because I can’t afford one right now.

PS: My computer runs on smooth one minute, the next time it overheats(HPpavillion dv6000

3. is there any books out there i could get in a store to help me to understand extensively about ethical hacking?

1. Telling people you need it to crack somebody’s network is a surefire way to not get helped.

2. Backtrack isn’t a tool anybody can just use and get results from, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get to grips with what needs to be done to even hack a WEP key. I’m sure you already know this, in which case you would also know that Backtrack is a Live OS and all you really need is an external hard drive.

3. Most importantly, if all you need is to crack some poor guys network, then why don’t you just download the software to do that on a suitable linux distro instead of abusing a good team’s security suite.
