Outlook Experienced A Series Problem With The Microsoft Outlook Mobile Service Add-In
Posted by alex in Errors at 10:52 PMWhen I first installed Microsoft Outlook 2007 on my new Windows 7 laptop I had some issues with it crashing. At first I was unable to locate the issue but eventually I received the below error which pointed to the Microsoft Outlook Mobile Service add-in or OMS as it is also called. While I never did have any OMS accounts configured the add-in was loading every time that Microsoft Outlook 2007 started thus taking resources and opening the door for error. This add-in is just another service that Microsoft assumes you want and/or need with fairly little documentation available for installing, uninstalling, or reinstalling. Below I describe the error I received, another error that could appear that can be related, and how to remove the add-in from loading ever time Outlook 2007 starts.
Microsoft Outlook 2007 “Outlook Mobile Service” Add-In Error:
Microsoft Outlook 2007 Error Complete Text:
Outlook experienced a series problem with the ‘microsoft outlook mobile service’ add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?
Another Outlook Error Message That Can Be Related To OMS:
Both of the above errors relate to the Outlook Mobile Service add-in. The first error allows you to click the Yes button which will disable the Outlook Mobile Service add-in however it will still be loaded each time Outlook starts. My suggestion would be to completely remove the add-in if you don’t ever plan on ever configuring any Outlook Mobile Service accounts. You can remove the OMS add-in by following the directions below.
Remove Outlook Mobile Service Add-In From Loading On Outlook Start:
- Open Trust Center: First you need to open the Outlook Trust Center by clicking on Tools in the Outlook top navigation and selecting Trust Center from the drop down menu as shown in the below image.
Once you click on this link the Microsoft Outlook 2007 Trust Center will launch in a new window as displayed below.
- Outlook Add-Ins: Now click on the Add-Ins link in the left navigation of the Trust Center configuration window which will display all active and inactive Microsoft Outlook add-ins as displayed below.
You can see the Outlook Mobile Service add-in is in the list of Outlook add-ins. If you disabled it by clicking Yes in the initial error message the add-in will display as inactive.
- Remove Outlook Mobile Service Add-In: To remove the OMS (Outlook Mobile Service) add-in click the drop down at the bottom of the Outlook Add-Ins configuration window displayed above and select “COM Add-Ins” next to Manage and then click the Go button. This will launch the list of active and inactive add-ins as displayed below.
To completely remove the Outlook Mobile Service add-in highlight it in the list and click the Remove button. This should delete it from the list of add-ins. You can now close the COM Add-Ins configuration window as well as the Outlook Trust Center configuration window.
- Restart Outlook: Now to complete the removal of the Outlook Mobile Service add-in you should restart Outlook 2007. You can verify the OMS add-in has been removed by opening up the Trust Center again.
This should solve the problem of Outlook crashing because of the Outlook Mobile Service.
