Console.exe System Error: The Program Can’t Start Because FreeImagePlus.dll Is Missing
Posted by alex in Insights at 11:02 PMI received a new laptop this afternoon that is running Windows 7 64-Bit. This is my first experience with Windows 7 and my first personal laptop running a 64-Bit OS so I was expecting to have a bunch of problems installing all of the applications that I use. I have been pleasantly surprised that the issues have been almost non-existent though during the installation of Console I ran into an error after trying to launch the Console application. Below is information on the error along with how to resolve the problem when running Console on Windows 7 64-Bit.
Console.exe – System Error:The program can’t start because FreeImagePlus.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
Resolve FreeImagePlus.dll Error:
I installed Console by downloading the beta package from sourceforge here. After downloading Console I unpacked the contents and copied everything from the Console folder that was created to C:\Windows\system32 which has worked in the past on Windows XP. Then when attempting to launch the Console application I would receive the error above.
To resolve this issue move the contents of the Console folder, which created after unpacking the download, into C:\Windows\SysWOW64 instead of the C:\Windows\system32 folder. 32-Bit applications should reside in the SysWOW64 folder instead of the system32 folder on Windows 7 64-Bit.
