When attempting to install application on your iPhone you might get a message stating that you are not able to install the application because you are not authorized on this computer. If you get this message and there is not another iTunes account configured for another iPhone on this computer then you need to authorize this computer for your iTunes account.

To authorize this computer click Store from the top menu and select Authorize computer from the drop down. Now sync the iTunes with your iPhone again and the application should install without issue.

Side Note:You are limited to authorize 5 computers per iTunes account.

If the above information does not resolve your issue click on this Apple Support link. Try the solutions available but the one that will probably work is the final solution regarding deleting the SC Info folder. Thanks to Alain4620 for providing the link in the comments below!

For everyone that is having a problem with syncing an app to their Iphone, whereby it says that you are not authorized, when in fact you did, i had the same problem and realized that you should check the original file that you downloaded … the .ipa right click it and if it says this file is blocked unblock it in properties. My file source is here C:\Users\F2Ni\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications …. its usually in the iTunes mobile applications folder. Just right click on the app you downloaded and Unblock it if it is blocked. NOTE: Im using Vista, so i dont think you can do the same in XP. Hope this helps. Iphone rules!!

Hey! Can i ask you another question? It’s my firstime in online shopping in itunes, and I use my card,,.. and i am not sure if its working or copatible… But i already downloaded the game… So that means my card is working?

    [Reply]

    alex Reply:

    Hello Thea,

Yes. If you were able to download the application or game to your iPhone or iPod Touch then the card is working. The charge takes a little while to show up. The only way it would not be working is if the game was a demo or short version of the application/game. If that is the case then it would be a totally different download though so I imagine things are working fine for you.

    Hope that helps.

  13. John says:

Hey Alex! My problem is the same, but none of the methods mentioned here seem to work (including anything I can google at this point)… Quick rundown: I have Vista 32bit that crashed recently & had to restore from clean factory image; iTunes 8.2 w/ 3 iPods (Touch, 3G & a Classic) – I’m having problem syncing apps with the Touch & 3G of course. Deauthorized, authorized, checked Vista settings, etc. – no luck. It keeps asking me to authorize it, so I log on… but then it comes back with “this computer is already authorized”! So I sync again – and again it tells me it’s not authorized! So all 36 of my apps and 12 videos would not transfer…

Here’s an added monkey wrench: If I install an app (directly from my 3G, for ex) I already have – and that goes thru just fine because it says I’ve already purchased it before – by the time I sync, it tries to transfer my purchases to iTunes BUT stops when it says the computer is not authorized, then asks me to go thru the same authorizati0n process, only to tell me at the end “this computer is not authorized” therefore it will remove my apps FROM the 3G as well… wonderful.

Any ideas how I can fix that? The computer retains its old hostname, no change, upon reformatting… I’m out of ideas. THANKS!!

    Hello John,

Sorry to hear about your problems. I understand the pain in a system crashing. The above covers most of the basics and without directly looking at the machine it would probably be fairly hard to speculate what the exact issue might be. Hello there Alex. Well i actually have the same problem as the guy above (John). Ive checked out several threads and blogs about the problem and there are all kinds of solutions. And absolutely nothing works. I am puzzled and rather pissed seeing is this is the only way i can possible download all my apps without taking the time to use the ipod itself. Im using an iPod Touch 2g.

Do you have any update on this problem? I use a 64bit Vista and the latest version of Itunes.

    Hello Carl,

I don’t. The same offer stands though if you would want me to assit further in resolving the issue feel free to contact me via the contact form on the site and we can continue from there. If none of the above solutions resolve the issue I have a feeling not only could the issues be isolated (possibly unique per system) but they may be more in depth to resolve.

Hope you reach a resolution if I don’t hear from you and if you do please post it.

I meant specifically clicked what buttons. You downloaded the applications to the iPhone or to iTunes on your computer? Do you have the device authorized on other computers? Have you ever successfully synced the device to a computer? The more information you can provide the more likely resolution is.

    Hello Joellllll,

Try this… Right click on the device when it is connected to iTunes and select backup. Does that work? Then right click the device once that is finished and click transfer purchases. Does that work? Then I would unplug after that has finished and try to deauthorize all computers so you are starting from scratch. Now plugin the device to the new computer and try to authorize. If that does not work try to sync all of the items via the devices interface in iTunes once it is reconnected. Let me know the results.

Just for info I have exactly the same problem with my itouch 2g on my vista 32 bits box (which didn’t have any crash problem) : everything sync except apps.

    alex Reply:

    Hello francois,

Are you able to download apps directly to the iPhone? If you are do they back up properly to iTunes? Have you tried unchecking syncing all applications and tried to just sync a couple from your iTunes to your iTouch?

For information on where the backups are stored check out this other article I wrote on this site >> http://tinyurl.com/m6zd5t …. I made the URL shorter so you could copy paste it in a browser if necessary and it will redirect you to the proper article on question-defense.com.

Alex! You’re a genius! I had the same problem as all the other people that posted here. I did authorize my computer, however iTunes kept telling me I didn’t, so I couldn’t sync my apps between iPhone and iTunes.

Then I tried the link to the Apple-site you provided in your post on July 8. The first solution Apple suggested didn’t work, but the second did! Brilliant!! I spent the whole evening trying to figure this out.

So for all the others, follow the link and delete the “SC info” folder as suggested at the bottom of the Apple article.

This is great! It saved my day. Cheers!

    [Reply]

    alex Reply:

    Hello Tony,

You won’t be able to sync that application to your iPod Touch unless the iPod Touch is jailbroken. If it is then you have to install AppSync via Cydia (not Icy) to get past the authorization that iTunes looks for in the app source. If the iPod Touch is not hacked then it will not work.

    Thanks.

Have similar problem as Nadine: I gave my iTouch to my girlfriend. She connected it to her iTunes account on her PC, did a “restore” (ie fully reseting the iTouch) then bought 3 apps on iTunes – but they wouldn’t transfer to the iTouch (not authorized). De- then re-authorized computer, re-restored, but still doesn’t work. Same in the other direction: an app downloaded on the iTouch directly wouldn’t transfer to iTunes either

Did you download the application via iTunes on that same computer? If not you might try deleting it and redownloading since its a free application any way. If you did download outside of iTunes then there is no guarantee it is authentic and it may never work.
