When using Fring to make Skype calls using a iPhone or a iPod Touch you must dial using a plus and a 1. So an example of call area code 123 with number 111-2222 you would need to dial +1231112222 instead of just dialing 1231112222.
To dial the plus all you need to do is hold down 0 for a second and you will see the plus symbol appear instead of the 0.
I have a set of headphones with a microphone on order to verify functionality of using Fring to make Skype calls using an iPod Touch second generation. Supposedly Apple has some headphones with mics coming out for the 2G Touch’s but I have read that any iPhone headset with microphone combination will work just fine.
Again the “Call Terminated” error typically happens for one of two reasons.
- You are not waiting long enough for Skype to register and login. With Fring this takes a bit longer than normal and can not be fully logged in for up to 5 minutes.
- You are dialing the number incorrectly. Make sure to dial in the following format: +1231231234

thats nopt whats happening to these folks. i had the exact same issue and heres whats up.
im using fring on my ipod touch through voipstunt. when i first installed it all my calls went through fine, but after about 6-8 calls i got the same message “call terminated” before it went through. the reason is because voipstunt only give you a certain number of free calls when you first sign up. once you get this message on your ipod you have to buy 10 euros credit. you can then make any calls including free ones (which wont reduce you rcredit). its working fine for me know.

Hello paddyirishman,
These folks actually was just me and the above explanation in the article for sure resolved my problem. Your problem may have been different since your actually using voipstunt and the article is about Skype. Two different providers of SIP calls over the Internet.
Thanks for the comment though.

I got it to work one time by doing the +1 thing. ever since that one time, you just here it ring twice then it terminates.

Hello fring touch caller,
Are you using Skype? Are you attempting to call US numbers? Also is there the chance that your wireless signal strength is weak to the iPhone or Touch?

Hello fring touch caller,
Even though you were connected to the Internet is it possible that you were not connected to fring? Did you try sending IM messages first to a skype user as a test before you made the call? Fring actually takes quite a long time to get all the way connected before you can make a successful call. That would be my first though. Let me know if you had already tested this. Also have you ever made a successful call with Fring on the iPod Touch?

Alex,
I’ve spent hours trying to get Skype/Fring working and this was the last hurdle. Your solution of adding the +1 worked perfectly. Thank you!

Hello Lori,
Good to hear! Fring is a cool application for the iPhone and it took me a bit to figure out that the +1 was needed. I am glad the instructions were easy to follow and helped resolve your issue.
Thanks.

Hello Andrew,
I have never used voipbuster so I am not familiar with the settings. I also haven’t used Fring in awhile since Skype is now allowed over 3G on the iPhone. Hopefully someone else with voipbuster knowledge will respond.
Thanks.
