I have been using my Windows XP laptop a lot more for server management and configuration. I have installed numerous utilities recently to help along the way including CGYWIN but had not installed anything to secure Copy files from my laptop to servers. I was on the phone with a friend who recommended WinSCP so I decided to install it. Not only will WinSCP allow you to SCP files but it will also allow you to SFTP files making it very convenient.

WinSCP is free can be downloaded here. I recommend that if you download the application and like it then donateto the project. I installed WinSCP so it now shows in my applications menu however you can run it as a .exe every time if you prefer to not install it.

SCP or Secure Copy means to securely transfer files between a local and remote host.

Another good program that is cross platform and covers FTP, SFTP, FTPS and FTPES is Filezilla available at http://filezilla-project.org/
It doesn’t do SCP, but SFTP is part of the SSH2 spec.
